Lee Alexander McQueen, 17 March 1969 – 11 February 2010, undoubtedly leaves an indelible stamp on fashion hence forth. Noting his genius, his monumental-ism, his rebel spirit, and his controversial sometimes frightening vision those very few, and dear friends, editors, photographers and the like who were present for the posthumous debut of McQueen’s Fall and Winter 2010 collection have already stated–with all due respect–the breadth and scope of lose suffered by all, but especially his friends and family. I want to leave more room for personal reflection upon this last collection of McQueen’s work…again, I feel out of my league in trying to assert my conclusion about this work of art. So I’ll leave it at that, a work of art, timeless and classic; it’s heavily influenced by religious iconography, medieval, baroque, Byzantine, a tribute to his past collections with renewed vigor and exemplary execution in design and construction. The pieces were hand cut on the stand by the maestro, a sign of his longing to get back to that which has been lost in contemporary fashion design. All sixteen pieces (which were only 80 percent complete at the time of his death) follow after the jump-off.
Just out from Hellz Bellz Obsessed With You is an edgy rock inspired Spring 2010 collection, as with all Hellz Bellz collection this one challenges femininity norms. Expect this to be delivery one with delivery two on the way in the coming months. The video gives a run down of the philosophy, inspiration, and overall design process directly from the horses mouth, aka Lanie.
My focus has been on high fashion as of late, and I’ve almost completely forgotten the street fashion that I truly love. The long and short is, Lanie is scarcely a follower and that is evidenced by the unique in-your-face look of each Hellz Bellz collection and Obsessed With You is no exception. I’ll be scouring the Internets for more street wares as they become available. More pictures after the jump off… this is the jump off!
Available now at Target, and I’m loving the fact that one doesn’t need to pay designer prices for designer looks! Hottest outfits, in my opinion, are Look 1 and look 2. More pictures after the jump off… Get the whole story »
The highlight of Baleniaga’s Fall 2010 collection could easily be the shoes, could easily be the collage of colors, it could easily be the hodge-podge of fabrics and patterns. It’s really all of these things, moreover, Nicolas Ghesquière’s vision of the future for Balenciaga’s Fall 2010 and Winter 2011 collection is an exercise in mixology. Not cocktails, but the pairing of seemingly unrelated concepts and ideas which create new standards. Not everything works for me in this collection but as with the computer-age that which doesn’t work simply gets forgotten while that which does work becomes a mainstay in our daily lives (think all the dot-com busts versus all the dot-com booms).
I’ll let you make your own judgment call as I feel a bit too pretensions trying to deconstruct fashion without being an expert…nevertheless having seen many of the upcoming A/W 2010-2011 collections from around the world I repeatedly see designers trying to break away from the past, or perhaps trying to define the future of fashion in their own words. Ironically, I often feel as though they combine the past with the present in order to achieve the future. More pictures after the jump Get the whole story »
