The highlight of Baleniaga’s Fall 2010 collection could easily be the shoes, could easily be the collage of colors, it could easily be the hodge-podge of fabrics and patterns. It’s really all of these things, moreover, Nicolas Ghesquière’s vision of the future for Balenciaga’s Fall 2010 and Winter 2011 collection is an exercise in mixology. Not cocktails, but the pairing of seemingly unrelated concepts and ideas which create new standards. Not everything works for me in this collection but as with the computer-age that which doesn’t work simply gets forgotten while that which does work becomes a mainstay in our daily lives (think all the dot-com busts versus all the dot-com booms).
I’ll let you make your own judgment call as I feel a bit too pretensions trying to deconstruct fashion without being an expert…nevertheless having seen many of the upcoming A/W 2010-2011 collections from around the world I repeatedly see designers trying to break away from the past, or perhaps trying to define the future of fashion in their own words. Ironically, I often feel as though they combine the past with the present in order to achieve the future. More pictures after the jump
