Guest Post: Victoria Passion

Pleased and honored to present a guest post from one of my favorite bloggers. I asked her to do post on street fashion from her neighborhood, you’re in for a treat! I’ll let her introduce herself to you. Please do visit her site Taste the Passion, and click her images for full size photos.

Hello dear Pink Dossier friends! I’m glad to share a post with you about the people and fashion from the streets of my home Riga, Latvia. Naturally, I’m from Riga, the capital of Latvia. All the pictures were taken by me, Victoria Passion, on the streets of Riga.

We are all so different and that’s so amazing. If it wasn’t so the world would be uninspiring and a complete disaster!

What I appreciate the most is diversity. We all have fashion–fashion is everywhere–on the streets, in the window-cases, in magazines, everywhere, but style is the gift which not all of us have.

I was lucky to catch a few of the most stylish men in the Riga:

Juris Lisenko is a musician/singer and one of the most stylish men in Latvia. I was at the beauty salon Stila Galerija and caught him there in his stylish pants from Vivienne Westwood.

Janis Strapcans is another musician/singer and friend of mine who I also caught on the streets. He’s got his style and that’s why he doesn’t need the fashion. He is always smiling and that makes him so charming.

I like the people who think about their fashion and their style before they leave the home. I don’t care if I like it or not, or whether or not I would wear it too. I care about the colours in their outfit, I like to see how they are playing with them, how they mix them. I care about the message that every outfit gives. I care about the creativity and simplicity, about femininity and masculinity…and about a lot more.

Married to the Mob Summer 2010 Collection

Married to the Mob Summer 2010 Collection

I’m a sucker for graphic tees and bad bad women. Thus my obession with brands like Hellz Bellz and, yes of course, Married to the Mob. There summer collection, Runaway Faye, features adult film harlot Faye Reagan in a short film and lookbook (no nudiness sorry peoples). Per the usual Married to the Mob delivers fire! There’s plenty of unique graphic tees and more than a few tops that are daring and stylish…shop the full collection HERE.

Well it may be gray and gloomy outside today, but our Summer 2010 collection has arrived just in time to heat things up! This particular line was influenced by the vibrancy of Jamaican culture, giving nods to all our MOB Rude Girls and Sister Nancy’s out there. The lookbook was modeled by fiery starlet Faye Reagan, a real-life rude girl who by the age of 21 has already created a new standard within the adult film industry. Saucy mascot or not, the collection remains subtly sexy and focuses more on fun, laid-back pieces, like airy tanks, boyfriend tee’s in bright colors, striped beach dresses, and even a see-through tote to throw it all in. For those who prefer their summer with a little more glamour, we’ve also included a floor-length maxi dress adorned with an MTTM chain print, a gorgeous accent for bronzed summer skin.

The Business and Beauty of Style

Edited by Debutante Clothing

This week, the links were especially thoughtful. With all of the buzz about fashion bloggers and how (or if) we make money, it was great to see some insightful posts about fashion and the almighty dollar. Grechen of Grechen Blogs discusses blogging for money, while Style On a String takes an in depth look at the dark side of logo chasing. But let’s not get too bogged down with the seriousness of fashion. Perhaps Simply Luxurious can convince you to indulge in the beauty of fashion with her collage of gorgeous, backless gowns. Or maybe you’re more interested in a catwalk down memory lane, via celluloid, with Old Fashion Love Story’s stills of unforgettable 70s costumes from the film Mahogany (costume designed by Miss Diana Ross!). After all, in the sarcastic words of Stanley Tucci in The Devil Wears Prada, “Yes, that is what this billion dollar business is all about. Inner beauty”. Enjoy!

Johnny Cupcakes 2010 Suitcase Tour (5&A Dime San Diego)

The legend of Johnny Cupcake continues to build steam and momentum. The one-time entrepreneur of the year stopped through San Diego while I happened to be there. Of course I made the effort to see the shenanigans first had. What I saw was both mesmerizing and inspirational, imagine hundreds of crazed graphic t-shirt enthusiast lined up en mass to see a true maestro. Doors opened at 7pm at 5&A Dime (one of my favorite boutiques on the west coast) and people had begun lining up outside days earlier. I’m not one for lines so I grabbed a brew (or two or three…) across the street and waited out the line. I was told that Johnny would see everyone that came out no matter how long it took…evidence below.

That’s me (right) and the MENG! It was well past 11:00pm by the time I actually got to do the meet and greet, lets just say he was looking kinda tired, but he didn’t dissapoint…just look at that goofy as pose!

When Fashion Gets Ethical

Edited by Retrochick

The ethics of Fashion can be a blurry area. With so much to think about when we buy, from construction to provenance, how can we pick our way through such a minefield of issues and emerge with our ethics intact?

We all have a duty as consumers to be as informed as possible about the purchases we make, and this weeks Links à la Mode can help. Amongst this weeks picks Fashion in My Eyes talks about locally made fashion, Style Eyes discusses Organic Cotton, Hello Beauty buys some recycled sneakers, Oranges and Apples sorts the wheat from the chaff in second hand clothing and Shrimp Salad Circus brings you natural make up.

Once your done being educated we also have a good smattering of fashion frivolity to be getting on with too, and there’s even more on the original forum thread!

What They Wore: Coachella

Yes, plenty of good shows to attend, but amidst the hustle and bustle between shows I couldn’t help but be pleasantly distracted by what people were wearing. Most of us were simply trying to beat the desert heat–in an effort to conserve our energy (needed for going wacko and freakin-out to the tune of a gazillion amazing musicians)–still others played the part of desert fashionistas, with eccentrics and creatives thrown in for inspiration.

The idea didn’t really strike me until late in the day on Saturday, but I plan on making this a more frequent column on this here bloggy, ya dig? Without further adieu…
