Chanel Fall and Winter 2010

Um…there’s almost too much to love and hate about Karl Lagerfeld’s Chanel Fall and Winter 2010 collection. The runway show above sums it up rather nicely, but leaves me wondering if Lagerfeld is the superstitious type…does he have a unique fondness for Sasquatch or Chewbacca the Wookie? Maybe that’s just me.

Don’t trip that’s a real flippin imported ice berg, naturally since they don’t occur in France! Opulent at times (see berg of ice), daring, and in most cases scarcely ready-to-wear, Lagerfeld, ever the visionary, managed to conjure up pieces that are heartwarming and beautiful. I can’t wrap my head around the abundance of fur–it’s fake by the way–right down to fur pants and what looks like a confused Mark Rothko inspired college mascot (okay that was a cheap shot). When the designer uses fur sparingly–or not at all–it works exquisitely and shows what a true showman maestro Lagerfeld is. More must-see amazing and laughable pictures after the jump.

Carolina Herrera Fall 2010 via New York Fashion Week

A very luxurious collection by Carolina Herrera, for Fall 2010, debuted a month ago at New York Fashion Week to wide praise. In Carolina recent collections she seemed to stray from the essence that won over so many of her faithful buyers. Getting back to her uber-luxurious style will no doubt please many of Carolina’s buyers who fell in love with her when she was dressing Jackie O.

Undoubtedly, the gowns in Carolina Herrera’s Fall 2010 collection will be hot items for those looking to dole out huge dollars for fancy fashion, and yes, a few are definitely red-carpet worthy. Yet, getting back to what I think is most important about this collection is wear-ability and practical situations one can find to wear these garments. Gowns are a once in while knock their socks of type situation, but there is more than a few contemporary and chic outfits that I love.

For instance look 1 and look 2 immediately jump off the page, I can’t quite describe why exactly, because as far as dresses go they are pretty typical, yet something about both strikes me as fabulous. Look 3 is the much more refined look that typifies Herrera’s previous work it along with look 4 will have anyone seeking an upscale mature look feeling their best about their expensive buy. Boy by Band of Outsiders - Fall 2010 via New York Fashion Week

Boy by Band of Outsiders Fall 2010 via New York Fashion Week

Boy by Band of Outsiders debuted at New York Fashion Week in mid-February 2010. Yes, I’m still playing catch-up, and I have no intention of handling this fast…rather I’m going to prolong posting Fall 2010 and Winter 2011 collections for as long as I possibly can…or at least until other fashion opportunities present themselves. That’s good for you don’t you think!?

Anywhoo! I was first introduced to Band of Outsiders by my friend Letter to Jane, and since then I’ve fallen madly in love with both their men’s and women’s wear (previous Band of Outsiders Lookbook). Band of Outsiders takes their name from the 1964 Jean Luc Godard directed Bande à part (or Band of Outsiders for us non-French speaking peoples…two Godard references in one week, I must be awesome!).

There’s something for everyone in this collection, and really there’s too much to love…or at least appreciate. The pants are unconventional; rather skinny and narrow yet leaving ample room for motion, and I absolutely love how each pair is similar to the next but remains wholly unique. I could go on and on about everything because I love it all. Instead I’ll show you: look 1, above, is my favorite and most complete look, while I adore look 2 and look 3 for their simplicity, exquiste construction, and flare. More pictures after the jump-off.

Betsey Johnson Fall 2010 Collection - NY Fashion Week

Betsey Johnson Fall 2010 Collection NY Fashion WeekSomehow this juicy nuggets slipped by me unnoticed during New York Fashion Week. Betsey Johnson is a style all to her own. Her signature collections are always more playful than serious, and yet the execution is so remarkably high that she often raises the bar of her own fashion success. In her return to the fashion runway at New York Fashion Week Betsey Johnson did not divert from her previously hysterical collection debuts, and visually Betsey’s Fall 2010 line certainly does not disappoint. Of the 53 looks Johnson debuted I’ve posted 21 which are a combination of the most wearable in real life situations and those looks which were simply too delicious to pass up ;) More pictures after the jump off!

Gucci Fall and Winter 2010

Yeah, Milan Fashion Week is well over, but there’s so much in the way of great shows that I haven’t been able to keep up with it all.

So here it is two weeks late, Gucci’s Fall and Winter 2010 collection. It’s rather fury which has me thinking WHY!? Don’t get me wrong I love the look, feel, and texture of fur garments, but seriously if it’s real fur I’m not cool with that, and I’m not a PETA member, nor will I ever be…just sayin’ I hope it’s fake fur.

Commentary aside, Gucci’s collection is chic, urban without being too trendy, and with just enough winter appeal that it doesn’t come across like Dolce & Gabbana’s Ski-bunny bust. In my opinion Frida Giannini has the mature and modern look nearly perfected; it’s rarely over the top and achieves a level of Italian sportiness that doesn’t seem boxed in. Married to the Mob - Gramercy Gardens (Spring 2010 Delivery Two)

Married to the Mob Gramercy Gardens (Spring 2010 Delivery Two)Married to the Mob released their Spring 2010 delivery 2 today. Entitled Gramercy Gardens the collection is serious heat, though I’m not sure what relation, other than name, it shares with Grey Gardens (I see no floral head-wraps ala Edie lol), the snippet below describes the essence of the collection. The entire Lookbook follows after the jump off PLUS two detailed looks that I adore. Enjoy!

Gramercy Gardens collection has dropped at last! For this season, we wanted to evoke visions of a confident woman maintaining a fine balance between a life that’s both scandalous and refined. The vibe was intended to be reminiscent of Grey Gardens, which was realized with the help of heavy red velvet curtains, rich colors in royal hues, and family love. As you can see, our usual poster girl Sweet 16 Sarah has been joined by the Head Bitch herself, Leah McSweeney for double the trouble.

Alexander McQueen Autumn and Winter 2010

Alexander McQueen Autumn and Winter 2010

Lee Alexander McQueen, 17 March 1969 – 11 February 2010, undoubtedly leaves an indelible stamp on fashion hence forth. Noting his genius, his monumental-ism, his rebel spirit, and his controversial sometimes frightening vision those very few, and dear friends, editors, photographers and the like who were present for the posthumous debut of McQueen’s Fall and Winter 2010 collection have already stated–with all due respect–the breadth and scope of lose suffered by all, but especially his friends and family. I want to leave more room for personal reflection upon this last collection of McQueen’s work…again, I feel out of my league in trying to assert my conclusion about this work of art. So I’ll leave it at that, a work of art, timeless and classic; it’s heavily influenced by religious iconography, medieval, baroque, Byzantine, a tribute to his past collections with renewed vigor and exemplary execution in design and construction. The pieces were hand cut on the stand by the maestro, a sign of his longing to get back to that which has been lost in contemporary fashion design. All sixteen pieces (which were only 80 percent complete at the time of his death) follow after the jump-off.

R.I.P Lee.
